Well, it’s a new year and for me a new bike. After having ridden primarily on a Campy 10 speed drivetrain for the last eight years, I have decided to make the leap to SRAM. For 2009 I will be running a SRAM Red drivetrain with Zero Gravity Negative G brakes. My very first impression upon opening up a few boxes of Red components was that they were light! Set up was a little different than Shimano or Campagnolo, which makes some sense since the shifting is also different. After only a few rides to shake down any issues and get a feel for the bike and the components, it’s a whole new feel. The shifting is very crisp and fast. It is definitely going to take some time to get used to the ergonomics of the new levers and the manner in which they shift. Shifting while out of the saddle on a power climb is quite different than Campy or even Shimano.  So far the Negative G brakes are an excellent combination of braking power and light weight.  They are nice and stiff and provide good modulation.  Stay tuned for some long term follow up on the ergonomics, durability and ease of shifting.
